VAT - Covid-19 VAT Payment Deferrals

24 March 2020

If you decide to make use of HMRC's deferment of VAT liabilities during the Covid-19 crisis, it's important to submit your VAT return on time but make sure to cancel your VAT Direct Debit.

HMRC has confirmed today:

For deferment of VAT payments between 20th March and June 30th, you do not need to inform HMRC of the request to defer. You will not be charged any interest although any amount will be required to be paid back by March 31st 2021.

There is a dedicated helpline 0800 015 9559 or search GOV.UK/coronavirus for further information.

You will need to cancel any direct debit for any potential deferred payment and also submit the return as normal.
