30 New Task Forces to Crack Down on Tax Dodgers
29 February 2012
In 2012/13, HM Revenue & Customs will target specific business sectors in specific locations where there is evidence of tax evasion. The likely targets include: the rag trade (import, wholesale, marketing & sale of clothing) the motor trade indoor & outdoor markets
HMRC expects to collect £50 million as a result of the 12 taskforces set up in 2011/12, some of which will be extended to other regions, including the scrap metal taskforce launched in Scotland in November 2011.
The taskforces are a result of the Government's £917 million spending review investment to tackle tax evasion, avoidance and fraud from 2011/12, which aims to raise an additional £7 billion each year by 2014/15.
