Tax Returns and the SEISS Grant
08 October 2021
The Self-Employed Income Support Scheme (SEISS) was launched in May 2020 to assist the self-employed at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Any of the three emergency support grants you received via the SEISS between 6th April 2020 and 5th April 2021 are taxable. You will need to report them on your Self-Assessment Income Tax Return due to be filed by 31st January 2022.
The grants will be included in your 'profits from self-employment' on your Tax Return and will be subject to the usual income tax and Class 4 NICs.
When forwarding us your Accounts information for the 2020/21 tax year, make sure to include records of the grants you received and your claim reference number.
If you received the fourth and fifth SEISS grants that were available, these will also be taxable for income tax and NICs purposes but will be included in your next Tax Return, for the year ended 5th April 2022.
You can read more in our 2020/21 Income Tax Returns & the SEISS leaflet.
